We begin our journey around the Medicine Wheel on the Full Moon and from the East, for this is the place of the rising sun where each new day begins.

When we become aware of the phases of the moon, we synchronize with the ebb and flow of the invisible and visible energy forces of the lunar cycle. The full moon is the crescendo of the cycle and is a time for both completion and new beginnings.

It is the place of fresh and vibrant energy and of high vision. To learn about and embrace the lessons of the East, carefully consider your intention for this lunar cycle. Does it represent your authentic self without lies and judgment?

The East brings to you the medicine of awareness and truth in the light of the sun.

Practice telling the truth from your heart this week. Speak the truth to everyone, but most of all, speak the truth to yourself.

Walking Meditation

Walking and moving meditation enhances the creative process and assists in problem-solving. As you consider your intention this week, walk at a comfortable pace for at least fifteen minutes each morning. Breathe deeply and fully as you walk, becoming aware of your body and how it feels while in motion.

Once you have brought your intention into focus, allow your mind to clear as you walk leaving space for new ideas to be born.

Storytelling Pouch

During this week find, make or buy a pouch about the size of your hand. While you are on your Circlekeepers Journey, collect mementos that are meaningful to you as you move around the Medicine Wheel. Remember, when you take something from nature, always leave a gift in return (see The Ritual of the Give-away, page 34). Take time to share the stories of the contents of your pouch; how they came to you, and what your relationship is to each item.

When you carry your Storytelling Pouch with you, you’ll always have a story to tell.

Making & Eating Corn Bread Meditation

To get the flavor of the East, take the time to make this Corn Bread and while you are eating it, consider the sacred corn plant and how it transforms the energy of the sun, the energy of the East, into sustenance for the people.

Preheat oven to 350°.  Butter a 9” x 13” baking pan. Sift dry ingredients together. Combine wet ingredients. Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients until mixed. Bake 25-30 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes. Serve with blessings, butter, and honey.

1/2 c. yellow cornmeal
1 c. whole wheat pastry flour
1  c. unbleached white flour
1 T. baking powder

2 c. plain yogurt
1/2 c. milk
